Minerva Teichert Paints a Masterpiece

Minerva Teichert was born in 1888 and raised on a farm in Idaho. She was given her first watercolors at age four and immediately fell in love with art. As a teenager, she began dreaming about attending the Chicago Art Institute. With her family unable to pay her way, it was up to Minerva to work, earn, and save.

Minerva’s hard work brings success, and she makes it to Chicago. She is baffled when one of her teachers, the renowned John Vanderpoel, is overly critical of her work. She confronts him, and he gives an unexpected answer for his behavior.
